Fun at Grandma and DaDa’s house

Every Monday and Wednesday the kids go over to my parents’ house to play with them and their cousins. This tradition started when Maddie was first born thirteen years ago. It started out with one kid and has grown to eight: Lisa’s three, Doug’s two, and my three. I don’t know how they do it, but they do. I think it is my kids’ favorite two days of the week. They get to play all day, eat popcorn, ride their bikes, play with the chickens, and play “monster” with my dad. It is fabulous! It is like camp, but better.

Because of the holidays and illnesses, the kids haven’t been there in almost two weeks. Needless to say, they were very excited. I dropped them off at 9:00am and arrived back around 4:00. They were all in the backyard playing on equipment that you would expect to find at a school. (Guess that is what happens when the Pastor gets all of the hand-me-down equipment from the church).

I walked up and found Wilson eating a popsicle and my dad asking Miller, “What does a chicken say?” He promptly replied, “Bock, bock, bock…” I was so surprised and proud! His first animal noise! Of course, it had to be a chicken….what else would it be? My parents have six chickens that all have names and are treated as pets.

Here are Faith and John playing while the chickens chase them around. You can see the chicken coop in the background. I was informed that the chickens were Charlotte and Chestnut.

Shepherd and Miller are only 5 months apart and play together very well.

There was a balance beam on the ground, but now it connects two playhouses and the kids climb from one house to the other on the balance beam bridge. Here is Gabriel.

The kids have so much fun over there. Because I grew up in Florida and all of my family was in NC, I didn’t grow up around any cousins. I never had that constant extended family around to enjoy. I am glad that my kids are able to have that experience.

Side note: Not only did Miller learn what sound a chicken makes today, but last night he started to feed himself with a spoon. He fed himself rice last night and today he fed himself yogurt and applesauce. A major milestone has been reached….it will either make my life easier or more difficult…I am not sure yet.

Here he is last night feeding himself some saffron rice off a giant plate while using a giant spoon.  Genius!  :)
